“House
di Vines?” By Greg Thompson (Viticulturist)
On
the 1st of October, the vines achieved 100% budburst. Above
average winter rainfall and numerous frost events strengthened the buds
for an even start across the vineyard. Early
shoot thinning and welcome spring rain saw the vines flourish with
health and vigour, setting the framework for flowering and fruit set.
Warm temperatures and flowering allowed an even full fruit set on small
bunch sites. The
extreme temperatures of early January demonstrated the importance of a
healthy canopy to shade the fruit from the sun’s intensity aided by
local cooling sea breezes. With bunch thinning complete and the onset of
veraison, bird netting was applied on the first week of February. The
vines were leaf plucked to allow light back into the fruit zone for the
ripening period. Grape
picking begins for the Sparkling Pinot Noir in the late February, Pinot
Rose and White Pinot in early March, Pinot Noir in early April, |
